Aesthetic fire protection for steel 

Protelack SFP and Protelack SFP FAST are intumescent, single-component, solvent-based coatings for passive fire protection of steel structures. 

 

Thanks to their application, the fire resistance of steel structures can be increased to: 

 

  • up to 120 minutes for open steel profiles
  • up to 90 minutes for closed profiles (beams and columns)

Application

Interior and exterior use

With the addition of the Protefilm T topcoat, Protelack SFP and Protelack SFP FAST can also be used for exterior applications. 

Fire resistance

  • PROTELACK SFP and PROTELACK SFP FAST coatings have been tested in accordance with EN 13381-8 for resistance to a standard (cellulosic) fire for up to 120 minutes.
  • When applied, the coating increases the fire resistance of steel structures – open profiles up to 120 minutes and closed sections of steel beams and columns up to 90 minutes.

Reaction to fire

PROTELACK SFP and PROTELACK SFP FAST coatings are classified as C-s2, d0 according to EN 13501-1 for metal structures.

CE marking

CE marking confirms that the product complies with EU construction product regulations under Regulation No. 305/2011 and EAD 350402-00-1106 “Reactive fire-protective coatings for steel elements.” The product holds a Declaration of Performance based on ETA 24/1185 issued by the Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science.

Requirements and application

For steel elements exposed outdoors or in interiors with high humidity or condensation, two coats of the hard polyurethane topcoat (Protefilm T) are required before the intumescent coating is exposed to such conditions. Minimum dry film thickness: 120 µm.

Proper surface preparation is essential – the primer must adhere well, be clean, dry, and free from contamination.

Environmental conditions during application and drying:

  • PROTELACK SFP
    Air temperature: 5–45 ºC
    Relative humidity: < 85%
  • PROTELACK SFP FAST
    Air temperature: 5–25 ºC
    Relative humidity: < 85%
  • Substrate temperature: not lower than 5 °C and at least 3 °C above the dew point.

PROTELACK SFP system

The PROTELACK SFP fire-protective coating is part of the PROTELACK SFP system.

The PROTELACK SFP system consists of:

  • Primer coatings
    PRIMELACK B, PRIMELACK S
  • Intumescent coatings
    PROTELACK SFP, PROTELACK SFP FAST
  • Top coatings
    PROTEFILM T

Features

The Protelack SFP system is a multi-layer coating system consisting of: 

 

  • anti-corrosion primer, 
  • intumescent fire protection coating, 
  • solvent-based topcoat. 
  • High fire resistance (R90/R120). 
  • Suitable for both interior and exterior use. 
  • Aesthetic finish – topcoats available in full RAL color palette. 
  • Can be applied over steel elements already primed with other epoxy primers (no need for removal), reducing project costs. 
  • Classified for open profiles up to R120 and closed profiles up to R90. 
  • For external applications (X): must be finished with Protefilm T polyurethane topcoat (120 μm thickness). 
  • For internal applications (Z1): can be used without a topcoat – the white intumescent finish provides a clean appearance for interiors.
